John Boddie has a well-rounded knowledge of the investment industry in both Canada and the U.S., having both regulated and participated in the markets. His expertise in market practices enable him to provide opinions and valuable advise in these areas.
2001 to Present - Boddie & Associates
Security Industry Consultant
Mr. Boddie provides support to legal counsel and offers expert opinions in securities industry litigation matters and regulatory proceedings. He provides this expert litigation support to both plaintiffs and defendants/respondents.
His primary area of consulting has been on securities trading issues in a “Litigration Support” role as both an expert witness and/or a consultant.
1988 - 2000 - Canadian Venture Exchange (CDNX) previously the Vancouver Stock Exchange
Vice President, Compliance
In 1989, the compliance functions of the VSE were re-organized and all compliance functions were centralized into a newly created division. Mr. Boddie was promoted from the Manager, Investigative Services to be the first Vice President, Compliance and was instrumental in the organization of the first centralized Compliance Division of a Canadian Stock Exchange.
In this capacity he was responsible for the oversight and discipline of all the Exchange brokers and member firms and the monitoring of the Exchange trading through the supervision of the:
- Listed Company Surveillance Department
- Trading Surveillance Department
- Investigative Services Department
- Audit Department (responsible for financial and compliance audits)
During this time he spoke at and attended dozens of conferences and seminars regarding securities regulation in Canada, the US and internationally.
Vice President, Corporate Finance & Listings
In 1991, Mr. Boddie was promoted to the position of Vice President, Corporate Finance and Listings. In this capacity, through a staff of more than 60 professionals, he was responsible for reviewing and approving all transactions involving the more than 2000 listed companies and member brokerage firms.
Vice President, Market & Business Development
In 1994, Mr. Boddie was promoted to the position of Vice President, Marketing at the VSE and later, Vice President, Business Development at CDNX. Mr. Boddie has a well-rounded knowledge of the investment industry in both Canada and the US, having both regulated and supported market growth. He is very familiar with both the practices and theories that exist and is able to provide opinions and valuable advice in these areas.
1972 - 1988 - Vancouver Police Department
Mr. Boddie served with distinction in a number of investigative and operational assignments, achieving the rank of Sergeant. In his last VPD assignment he was in charge of a “Strike Force” unit which is a specialized criminal investigative unit.
Mr. Boddie’s 16 years of police service provided him with his initial formal training and experience in investigative matters, case preparation and testifying in court.
In 1988 Mr. Boddie, was "head hunted" to be the Manager, Investigative Services of the VSE.
